What matters
- Best for: phones, keys and travel.
- Watch for: pocket bounce, phone size and seam pressure.
Not all pockets solve the same problem
Deep side pockets are convenient for a phone but add weight to one or both legs. Waistband pockets keep small items close to the center of the body but may be too small for modern phones. Back pockets can work for keys or cards yet may be uncomfortable against a bench or seat.
A pocket that technically fits a phone can still be impractical if the opening is loose or the fabric stretches enough for the phone to bounce during running.
What to check for a phone pocket
- Usable pocket depth, not just the visible seam length.
- Whether the phone sits fully below the opening.
- How the pocket behaves when the leg fabric is stretched.
- Whether the added seam crosses a high-friction area.
- Whether carrying weight causes the waistband or leg to migrate.
Use this in practice
Compare the garment information you can verify — measurements, construction, care label and composition — with the way the pair actually behaves on your body. Avoid treating a single marketing term as a guarantee.
